Comment:

Dry weather continued to be the same in June as it was in May. Considerable rainfall came only at the beginning of June in total only 5 mm. During the second and at the beginning of the third decade tropical temperatures in the whole hop- growing area caused very fast drying up the soil. High temperatures deepend the impact of moisture deficit to the hop plants. Continuing period of drought influenced primarily young vegetation which does not have got sufficiently developed root system yet. Moisture deficit was partly decreased by precipitation at the beginning of the third decade of June and it was equalized only during the penultimate day of June when the precipitation amount exceeded 30 mm in the whole area. Depending on localities hop plant are in the phase of growing and start of blossoming. However it can be expected that in consequence of dry period and high temperature some of the old plants will not reach the top of the trellis this year. In June the chemical treatment against downy mildew of hops was done. Infection risk is low due to the dry weather. The whole area was treated against the first generation of hop aphid. As a result of high temperature during the second and third decade of June red spider mite attacked about one half of hop area. Spraying was applied against it and therefore this pest does not cause any problems for the time being
