(*)We use meteorologic data from our meteorological station in Destnice near Saaz. 30-years average (1981 – 2010) according to Czech Hydrometeorological Institute is being used as long-term average. (Up to 2016 the 1961 – 1990 average has been used.)

Comment:

July was significantly dry, the weather was not rich in precipitation compared to the previous June. In the whole month, our station in Destnice has measured total rainfall of only 16.4 mm, which is only about 24% of the long-term average for this month. Rainfall in different locations varied quite a lot, for example, in Horesedly it rained 26 mm in July. Rainfall fell within seven days. The average temperature measured in Destnice station reached 18.7°C, which is almost one degree less than the long-term average. Throughout the growing season, the wet weather which greatly supports the occurrence of downy mildew of hops, is the biggest problem for hop growers. From spring to the end of July, about 6 sprays against hop diseases and pests were carried out. The health status of growths manages to hold to a good level. At the end of July hops create cones and on view look good. However, growers need to start raining in early August, as there is now a significant water deficit in hop gardens.
