Comment:

The month of June was characterized by high rainfall, their total at our weather station in Deštnice swung over 150 mm and it rained 16 days a month. It rained the most on June 29th falling up to 60 mm locally in two hours. On Thursday June 24th unfortunately a strong hailstorm known as a downburst hit TOP HOP farms and totally devastated 18 hectares of hops and other hop gardens were damaged in the range of 10-50%. On Tuesday June 29th there was again rain with hails which however no longer caused such significant damage on our farms. The average temperature reached 19.6 °C so June was on average 2.6 °C warmer than the long-term average. From June 17th till June 21st there were five consecutive hot days when the temperature during the day exceeded 30 °C. The delay in growth which was in May 1-2 weeks was almost equaled and most of the hop plants on our farms reached the top of the trellis i.e. 7 m. The current biggest problem is to ensure that water is drained from the hop rows and to immediately start another round of chemical protection against downy mildew, especially of hops damaged by hails and then carry out cultivation in order to aerate the soil.
