(*)We use meteorologic data from our meteorological station in Destnice near Saaz. 30-years average (1981 – 2010) according to Czech Hydrometeorological Institute is being used as long-term average. (Up to 2016 the 1961 – 1990 average has been used.)

Comment:

Unfortunately, the month of July was also unfavourable for hop growth and development. In particular, the total rainfall reached only 49.2 mm, which is only 70% of the long-term average, and compared to last year 2021, it was only 40% of the rainfall. It didn´t rain at all for 17 days in a row and in the next 5 days the total rainfall was less than 1 mm, which basically cannot be considered rain. The situation in the hop farms worsened in the period from 18.7. to 25.7., when daily temperatures did not fall below 30°C. On 19.7. the temperature in the shade rose to 35.1°C. Sunshine time in July exceeded the long-term average by 32.2 hours. Approximately one third of the hop plant area is spiky in growth, and some edges of the growth have sun-burnt leaves. Most of the hop plants are in the cone creating stage. The second flowering was minimal this year, and therefore only a below-average harvest can be expected, especially for the Saaz semi-early red bine hops. The first analyses show that even the content of alpha bitter acids is lower than last year. The health state of hops is good in most areas so far, growers are focusing on treatment mainly against downy mildew and red spider mite.
