Experimental hop garden „U Mlýna“
Hop research in Destnice near Saaz town has had long tradition. It was actually in Destnice where Dr. Karel Osvald started his experiments with hop breeding, and V.F. HUMULUS is proud to continue in his legacy.
Our team has long been invested in hop breeding and hop protection research activities. Experimental hop garden “U Mlýna” is mostly used for breeding traditional clones of Saaz variety – the Osvald’s clones 31, 72 and 114.
Main purpose of this breeding is to get a direct comparison between original clones and our new, virus free hop plants, in terms of the aromatic compounds contents, as well as yield.
Apart from Czech hop varieties we also cultivate various other hop varieties from around the world, such as Nugget, Cascade or Sterling (US), Merkur, Taurus, Herkules or Magnum (Germany), as well as new experimental genotypes, which have not been registered yet and are still known only under a code name.
