Delegation from Sapporo Breweries visits Deštnice
Last week, we were delighted to welcome representatives of Sapporo Breweries, our very close partner, who arrived for a General Meeting of V.F. Humulus. Apart from the board meeting, our guests also paid a visit to Cinke gardens in Žatec, the place where we cultivate new hop plants.
Our project of producing new hop plants could not be as successful as it is, if it wasn’t for the Cinke gardens. This is the place where we cultivate new hop plants of Saaz and Saaz Special varieties, which help hop growers across Czech Republic keep their hop gardens productive and vital.
We also paid a homage to Dr. Karel Osvald by visiting the experimental hop garden in Deštince. It has been almost 90 years since Dr. Osvald bred the best clones of hops – especially 31, 72 and 114 – in the Research hop station in Deštnice. Clones that we have been calling Saaz hops ever since, which considerably helped to maintain the prime position of Saaz hops around the world as the best quality and most sought after hop variety.
